What strikes one is the sheer Heath Robinson clunkiness of the windmill's inner workings. Being physically both weak and lazy, I think living in those times would have caused me to suffer serious stresses and strains. I am not surprised that all my ancestors, literally, on the male side, all of whom seemed to work on the land, ended up dying prematurely.
