Notice the personalisation of events as the "Tyranny of Hitler's Germany". I recent caused some controversy in my debating group by suggesting that political leaders "made no difference". People immediately came back citing both Hitler and Churchill (although one person did mention Enda Kenny). My point was subtler, possibly more philosophical and it was that can we say that these people were a cause, or maybe, an effect? Discuss.
