Along the walk, there are a number of gullies or ravines, which represent a very tiring diversion. You go down, and then up, sweating and gasping. All the time, you have a vague fantasy of a simple, horizontal, Tarzan like bridge connecting the two sides. The other thing we discussed along the way was a version of chaos theory, prompted by how the paths are worn. People choose various routes, or sub paths, for unknown reasons. The paths are therefore worn according to popularity, but I don't think anyone could predict how or why these would evolve, which is where the chaos bit comes in. We agreed it was a bit like the stock markets and money markets - the pundits may have degrees and doctorates in economics, but ultimately, where human behaviour is concerned, no-one seems to know anything. Its chaos. Actually, I'm a member of the British Shambolists, and organisation which, amongst other things, likes the idea that no-one knows anything.
