February 03 2015 - Satellite Pic of Punta Marroqui, Tarifa, Spain
As explained this is the European mainland's most Southerly point. The point is just above the 36 degrees line of latitude which if followed East, goes over Algeria and Tunisia and then through the Island of Gozo, which is part of Malta. My parents met in Malta in 1944, but I don't recall them ever mentioning anything about Malta's latitudinal position.
