The noise of rain on a veranda is, to me, hypnotic. These are perfect conditions for meditation or contemplation. I did once buy a CD of an entire hour of rain falling on a roof - it was recorded on Cape Cod. Unfortunately, when I played it, it sounded to me like bacon frying and that effect was not conducive to meditation, although it did generate an appetite.
