Saturday October 25th
This morning we woke up in our comfy 5 star hotel suite at 7:30am so we could get to the Patronas towers early enough to get tickets to go up to the sky bridge which connects the two towers. It was a slow process getting ready after being up so late last night, but we finally got moving and walked the mile or so to the towers. There was a huge line in the lobby of the towers with people waiting to get tickets. Some other SAS students said they had been waiting in line for an hour and a half. We decided to stand in line in shifts while the others went to get breakfast and come back to relieve whoever was in line. Slap Shot wasn't hungry so he waited first and we went to a food court of a mall attached to the towers. Surprise surprise, another mall. The only place open for breakfast was McDonald's. After 2 months of international traveling I finally had my first McDonald's. The only other place I have seen McDonald's so far was South Africa, but I heard it was also in Brazil. After a quick breakfast we went back down to get Slap Shot and he had already got the tickets. They apparently had not opened the line yet and when they did it went fairly fast, so he got tickets for the 12:30 time slot to go up the sky bridge. We went outside to a court yard in fron of the tower and took lots of pictures and funny poses in front of the tower to kill time and then walked to the Kuala Limpur tower.
The Kuala Lumpur tower is a skinny tower with a observation deck and restaurant at the top. It is only a tower where as the Patronas Towers are actual business buildings. The KL tower looked taller than the Patronas towers on the skyline but this was because it was built on a hill. We had to pay to go up in this one but it had incredible views of the Patronas Towers and the rest of the city. Apart from the golden Triangle, the city was spread out similar to LA. It does not have a huge skyline like Philly or NYC, just the hotels, Patronas Towers and KL tower, every other building is relatively small. We killed some time here in the tower and then made our way back to the Patronas Towers for our tour of the sky bridge.
The tickets to the towers were free and we were briefed with a video expaling the towers and the Patronas Oil Co. before heading up. The view was not as good as the KL tower and not really worth coming up to see other than to say we did it. After the tour we went back to the hotel to take naps. John and I actually used the internet instead of taking a nap, it is a real treat to not have to pay for internet and I can't even imagine how it is going to be when I get home. We also went in the pool for a bit too. Around 5:30 we got ready to go out for dinner.
We went back to the mall across the street for dinner except instead of a fusion restaurant we went to a shushi bar. It was really good and very filling! Total it was only about a $15 meal which is not too bad for sushi and we had many different kinds. The sushi came out of the kitchen on a conveyer belt and you took the plates off, and the plates were color coordinated according to price.
Instead of going out again tonight we took a taxi to China Town. There was a huge market here, much bigger and more crowded than the one in Penang. It was literally a maze weaving through all the carts. They had more hand bags and clothes at this one where as the market in Penang was more souvenirs and DVD's. I bought 3 knock off Ralph Lauren polo's for pretty cheap and nothing is wrong with them so it was a good buy. The other guys got some shirts and belts and stuff. We are still saving our money for Vietnam, there is a lot of build up for the shopping there so I hope we are not disappointed! We got back to the hotel around 12 and stayed up a few more hours using our computers. I should have mentioned that we brought our lap tops.
