Well after recovering from the journey of death it was time to explore Cusco, we had four days before the start of the Inca Trail and there is lots to see here. The first day we used to relax and walk around the cobbled streets and take everything in. The town is beautiful and the square reminds of those that exist in Italy, there is a really good atmosphere here and the air seems so clean! The only annoying thing is the amount of people trying to sell you stuff, and I mean anything, weve been offered rope, calculators, coca leaves, absolutely everything and thats just walking down the street!
Cusco is at a height above sea lebel of 3400m which I believe is about three time the height of Snowdon, the air is very thin here and it takes your breath away, some people suffer from altitude sickness so we were glad that we have a a few days to aclimatize to the height before attempting the Inca Trail. After checking Cusco out we decided to do a city tour the following day this would take us around some of the old Inca temples and sites and was very informative although our guide blatently hated the Spanish for coming and ruining all the Inca structures and stealing their gold etc, he of course was a decendant of the Incas. The information was very interesting and to this day nobody knows how these structures were built, a bit like the Pyramids! After a tiring day we sampled some local food. This is a bit didgy and Gbo and Leeroy have suffered some consequences of the completely different food they have over here. I just hope none of us get it when we are walking.
The following days consisted of continuing to walk around Cusco, taking in the sites like the Cathedral etc and getting all the stuff we need for the trail. We start the trail tomorrow and dont really know what to expect we have heard lots of different things about it, some good, some bad, but everyone says its 100% worth it! Cant wait but slightly apprehensive! Im looking forward to a big night out when we return and I well wanna sample a Guinea Pig which is a local delicay over here!
