Day 3
Flash back!
I slept great again last night, did you? Woke up to a warm beautiful sunny morning, loaded up the bike, and got under way around 10AM. Today was going to be a long day, possibly the longest of my whole NZ journey. 317 miles today. Oh, I've done more, LOTS more in one day, but NZ miles are way different then any other place. There are no straight lines here, just twist and turns all over the place. A motobikers dream.
There are also tons of roundabouts and one lane bridges as well. Not sure exactly why the bridges are so narrow, but they are, and they are plentyfull.
It's super hot tonight here in our cabin. NZ weather is very odd. Today it rained 3x, short spatters of rain. the weather changes here just about every hour. I went from hot, to cool, to wet, then repeat. We're also pretty much up here in the middle of nowhere again. Staying at a tiny cabin, with no bathroom or tv or anything. Just a room. Sort of like camping but without the tent.
We rode through more jungle today , you and I. Did you read that Northern NZ is home to many rainforests? We rode right through a few. I wanted to stop and film some. You know...that 9 mile stretch through gravel that came out of nowhere? That was a scary ride. I heard you scream a thunderous victory WOOHOO when we exited it. Or maybe that was me. :)
I have to say. NZ is pretty awesome, though so far this northern trek has not been the sandy beach mecca I thought it was going to be. It's all good mind you. I got some great shots on video, but not sure when I can upload. Paying for internet AGAIN tonight by megabytes. so trying to keep it cheap. Tonight's dinner also sucked again. Just one fish and chips place to eat at. SIGH. DOUBLE SIGH! I had the corn dogs and chips. So glad that prilosec is working. You'll be glad too. Do you want the top bunk or the bottom?
We did get to drink our first NZ beer tonight. Lion red beer. Not bad at all. At least i THINK its NZ beer. It could be from someplace entirely different. It was cold and went down smooth, thats all WE care about after riding 8 hours, right?
There are SO many cows in NZ. more then I think Ive ever seen ANYWHERE!!
Kiwi's are hard to understand sometimes too. Or maybe it's just me. BTW- a kiwi is what you call a New Zealander.
One super nice thing about tonight was ending the day in a hot springs mineral pool. it was part of the holiday park here in Miranda. Was so relaxing and nice. I soaked away for a good 45 mins. met some nice kiwis too, and chatted up a bit. Now that Im back in the cabin and relaxed and a little less hot and sweaty. things are good.
I've uploaded some pictures. videos are coming soon I hope. I have a bunch to upload, but cannot do it till free internet.
Tomorrow We ride the Corromandel Penninsula. Supposed to spectacular! And I reckon an easy ride and under 200 miles. That will be nice. But tomorrow is another holiday park. Most likely paying for internet ONCE again.
Goodnight everyone.
