After a 12 hr flight, four movies, some very impressive food put on by qantas, nice chats with our seat buddy who had 2 more flights before arriving at his destination in Bogota and a very camp air host who called Brent and I "twins"?! we arrived.
The airport rigamarole was fairly painless except that as an Australian, I had to pay a $95 US reciprocity fee and B didn't have to pay anything. The list of countries which have to pay seems to be in order of most-hated: 1. US $160 2. Canada $114 3. Australia $95 4. Albania ? then 5. Mexico $23. Not sure why Albania is there but the list makes a good case for improving diplomacy!
We had a bit of an incident with the cab. Negotiated a good rate with a chap that spoke decent English only to be escorted to a car driven by a woman that spoke none who kicked us out about 1km from our final destination because it seemed she was sick of the traffic!!
The pp is of our first meal ordered out. There was a menu but we couldn't understand any of it so we just inquired "carne?" And got those babies. They were so yum!
Highlight so far: The amazing street art/graffiti in the area we're staying - Bellavista. Will post pics later.
Low light: Can't figure out how to flush the loo in the backpackers and too shame to ask!
