Well we can honestly say we cruised the South China Seas yesterday.
Just because it was a bit of a booze cruise doesn't mean it doesn't count and we integrated with the locals when the captain of the ship [no less] took a shine to Dave. I'm not sure if he fancied him or was by fascinated by him or just enjoyed the company of a fellow lager lout but we were invited to join him and his family to eat at their table [they gave us some weird looking and tasting 'meat' wrapped in banana leaves and told us it was dog but they were laughing so we are not sure whether they were taking the 'p' or genuinely wanted us to try something new. Whatever the motive it was vile and though we were very polite in refusing some more, it only served to make them laugh more as they whole heartedly tucked into their share. This was followed by an impromptu rendition of 'I just called to say I love you' and other cheesy songs and various kitchen implements being used as drums beaten by chopsticks. This reminded me of several drunken nights at nursery staff parties, though, sadly, no-one else knew the words to 'crazy'. We were then invited to join them at the family home later for more beers but we politely declined. All in all we had a fab day and met some great people.
Today we have had a lovely walk to the old harbour and a visit to the Cham Towers [Well we saw them from the road, we didn't realise they were up hundreds of steps and we were feeling a bit jaded after yesterday also it really is hot today!] we followed our walk with a brunch of egg rice, beef noodles with vegetable and crab soup [Just for a change] We haven't been very adventurous food-wise, we went to an outdoor restaurant last night which was packed with Vietnamese. There was an extensive menu; sliced salamander, cows penis [I thought only bulls had them] frogs, sparrows, dog, intestines of any animal you can think of, heads of any fish you can think of, chicken feet, duck eggs with embryos at various stages of development and all sorts of other wondrous fayre. So we ordered egg rice and beef noodles with vegetables! [Not sure about the source of the 'beef', it was a bit chewy but ok] We're travelling again tomorrow and we think we deserve a bit of a rest today so it's off to the beach now with a dip in the sea or maybe the pool at the Louisian!
Well Nha trang started off noisy and is ending up noisy, we've had a fab time but are off to Dalat tomorrow expecting a bit more peace and tranquillity, we will let you know how it goes .......
