tris'n'laws big adventure
well 38 hours on a train, and ten hours in Buffalo but when we arrived in East Glacier we knew that it was all worth it! the place is so gorgeous and so underestimated. we had never really heard about it, the only real reason we went was because it sounded cool!! but it really is stunning. the first day we arrived we didn't do a great deal just went for some food, a drink and the nearest bar to et our bearings. on the second day we hired some bikes to go around the park. unfortunetly for us i think the sweet looking old lady who hired them out totally saw us coming when she brough out two Mary Poppins style bikes for us so travel around the mountains on!!! quite sight. so we didn't get too far, just to the narest waterfall running eagle falls. it was worth it though, the fals and the view along the road made up for the fact it was pure pain riding the bikes.
later that day we went to the lodge across the way for a drink. it looks out across the mountains and we saw a storm a brewing so made a dive for it inside. which proved to be very wise as it proceeded to thunder, lightening and hail like we have never seen before which was stange as it was so hot all day. the hail was the size of golf balls and caused lots of damage to cars. everyone at the lodge was watching the BMW get wrecked out front. which was pretty funny. the buses we had booked our tour for the next day also got a fair bit of damage to the canvas roof. it is a good job it didn't rain when we were on our tour we would have got soaked!!
check out the photos of the hail and the condisation rising from the ground it looked really cool.
Anyhow the next day we went on tour on one of those cool 'Jammer' buses. was really good fun and we got to see loads as they pull of the roof and you can stand up to take pictures out of it. the view was amazing we went quiet far up the mountains and at some points the ride was really hair raising!!! when we got to the top of logans pass at 7,000 feet up it was an amazing view. we also saw some strange wildlife some mountain goats and some round squirels. i really wanted to see a bear through sob sob -laura. apparently a few days before they has seen three in a day.
we then made our way back down the mountains and .............back on to a train!!!! horay. o our way to seattle. but the time differences are catching up, and confusing the hell out of us!! speak to you soon
lots of love x x x x x x x x x
oh ps (from laura) Buffalo turned out to be more exciting than we first though. when we were there a huge storm appeared from nowhere and me and tris took cover under one of those raised high ways because i hate lightening. it was one of the worst storms ever and the wind was incredible. after it had gone and we were catching the bus back to the train station we found out that just a few miles down the roads it had turned into a tornado!! our bus went right past the damage it has caused to a shop and some cars. how crazy is that??? but it has send me running for cover everytime i see a lightening or it gets a bit windy!!!!
