On 23rd September we were headed for the final destination of our travels - Rio de Janeiro! After our usual complex combination of various smelly buses and taxis from Puerto Iguazu, through Foz du Iguazu on the Brazilian border (where we suddenly were unable to communicate at all in the Portuguese language, whilst failing and probably offending in our attempt to continue using our Spanish), we arrived in Rio over 24 hours later after taking our very last bus jour...

We arrived in Buenos Aires at 5:30pm the next afternoon, starving having had 1 biscuit the whole day. Extremely fatigued and grumpy with each other we failed to understand the metro system to get us to our hostel, and instead jumped in a taxi across Buenos Aires to 'San Telmo', the oldest colonial area of the city. Up at 5.30am after one final comfy but short sleep at the Tin House, we packed our bags once more and said our goodbyes to a sleepy Sean who was setting off with a ridiculously large bag to do the W-trek himself that morning. On the 2nd of September, after a day spent relaxing in El Calafate, we took a 6 hour bus back across to the Chilean side of Patagonia. The bus headed high up into an alpine landscape blanketed with snow before descending back down into the vast windswept plains that we had become accustomed to seeing but were nonetheless still in awe of.
