Dear blog- its been a while since I've touched based, but that really means things have been relatively quiet in regards to mis-adventure! Actually, no,that's not entirely true, but it's fair to say Split was a step up in pace from the town of Pula. After being greeted my a beautiful sunrise on the boardwalk of Split, I spend the next few days exploring maze of street and alleys of the main town area on the waterfront. Within the walls of the old castle ruins you would expect a variety of museums and tours that cost an arm and a leg, but it's basically a tiny village within a town. The locals moved into the castle centuries ago when the Romans abandoned it and ever since it is home to hundreds of stores, cafes, bars and my favourite the farmers market. You can buy fresh fruit, veg and the usual tourist nic-nacs.......but nothing was cooler than the baby ducks and chicks- £3 each! Bargain. You would have seen my picture, it's my favourite! I quickly learnt that most people still doesn't have a great grasp of English, but my acting skills made sure they knew all I wanted was a "big beer"! Never enjoyed more coffee and pizza in my life, it's rude not too when they are both so good. Four days relaxing in Split, some sunshine, and few days of rain but was a great spot to chill out. The last night I moved hostels to a Beach Hostel, and was glad to find some Aussie, British and Kiwis staying there, I was getting sick of the isolation of being misunderstood by the local- I need to talk some s*** with people who get my jokes! That night the whole hostel headed to local bar under the guidance (I'm being generous with the term) of the hostel manger-Ladybird.
No that's not a typo, or a nickname, her name is Ladybird. So already I can imagine your starting to piece together an image of her so let me help you out.. She is a single 40 Norwegian with a 20yo daughter back in Norway (who has cut herself off from mum-wise move) and Ladybird is an artist who is into Astrology. In a nut shell, she analyzed all our star signs, saying basically all the bad personality traits our signs have, which was so uplifting before heading for a night out. Apparently cancers are the worst, AND male cancers are the worst people! As if! The night life was pretty dead, April /May is still not tourist time so we had few local shots and ran off on ladybird! I think the converstion about her having a threesome with two patrons at the hostel was the clincher, so we high tailed it home, ready to jump on the cruise Saturday!
We are three days into the cruise, and we have not had the best wether, lots of rain, a little patch of sun here and there, but we have great group on our tour and we are making the best of it. Plenty of beers, food, wine and wise cracks! It's a little eerie at some of the island, being Easter lots of places are closed, but like I said, we have been determined to have fun. Winery tours, bike riding, rafting coming up and tonight litre bucket of cocktails should make for a good night!
This was meant to be brief, but apparently not!
HAPPY EASTER! Xoxo
