What a beautiful city Vienna is! Two days and nights don't do it justice.
We found ourselves in a 6 bed dorm at Wombats City Hostel. Not the best, but at least our room mates were quieter in their coming and goings thn our last dorm experience.
Lots of the buildings in Vienna look like fancy wedding cakes. We teamed up with a fellow Australian, Wez and the three of us went out to see the city. Some of the highlights were, doing a tour of the world famous Vienna Opera House and the Hoffburg Palace with its amazingly Sumptuous Kaiserapartments.
We then decided we should get out into the country a bit as we had an all day pass for the city transport and try and find the wine growing area. We spent a hilarious 3 hours or so riding the trains, quite lost but finally finding our way to the city outskirts and just glimpsing some vineyards, having a meal then heading back into the city again. We got off the underground where a huge outdoor screen was set up and lots of chairs. It was a free screening of a recent Berlin Symphony Orchestra performance and we enjoyed the cultural experience, before heading back to our hostel for a well earned rest after a busy day.
Footnote: The Historic Centre of Vienna is UNESCO World Heritage listed.
