CHICHEN ITZA
Up this morning early early we wanted to beat the crowds we had seen parked outside yesterday as we passed in the early afternoon, it appeared crazy with coach after coach all the way to the main highway!!!!
We arrived at 8.30 to find a que that took approximately 20 minutes for entry tickets. It was worth the effort to be there that early – it is magical how did they build this amazing city.
Lots of photo's it started to get hotter and hotter as the sun rose higher, mossies were thick in the shade. I have never seen so many souvenirs sellers in one place in all my travels it was unbelievable. We were leaving as more and more people were flooding through the gates from coaches and tours. We were happy to leave and head to a Cenote to cool off, we decided on one called Saamul, it was faboulous we fluked it that we had it all to ourselves truely a magical experience, this was a big deep dark pool, slightly creepy and we got the spooks on and it took us a little while to jump in. There were also loads of fish wanting to nibble at Rods toes, they werent interested in mine. It had a small waterfall which was actually man made by pumping out the water and returning it – this did add a bit more interest. The feeling of your skin after swimming in these Cenotes is really soft and you feel clean, we did wonder about pollution with these under ground rivers........ A quiet evening, Sunday night in Valladolid. We had a couple of cold beers, nachos and watch the locals dancing in the streets to a live band, its a beautiful scene to witness, they dance so beautifully, mainly elderly and boy do they have rhythm.
