We arrived in Phuket after a 10 hr journey hopping from a ferry boat to a coach and then a cramped mini bus with no air-con. Luckily we met a couple of nice lads from Cardiff who were also travelling and chatting to them seemed to pass the time.
We stayed in a nice hostel near patong beach called bodega with a lively bar and lots of backpackers. Only problem was that we had to lug our bags up a really steep staircase, thank god we were only on the 1st floor and not the 4th.
Spent our 1st night on the famous 'bangla rd' which was only about a 5 min walk from our hostel. Very lively strip, good nightlife even iguanas and monkeys. Ended up in a bar at the end of the strip overlooking the beach.
We spent a day on patong beach catching the rays which was very touristy, nothing like koh tao. Have been to Phang Nga Bay which was the setting for the James bond movie 'the man with the golden gun'. Really nice here! Went onto a village floating on water with a population of approx 200 ppl called fishing village. Visited the school where the children were learning to spk English. They were really happy to see us.
Spent a day on phi phi island which was absolute paradise and also visited maya bay where the beach was filmed. Water was crystal clear and the snorkelling was great here - Saw some really colourful fish. Wish we had time to stay here longer!
Went to see a really good show called fantasea in a
big outdoor theatre. Lots of colourful costumes, dancers, acrobats, tigers and elephants. After the show we had happy hour cocktails and dinner at the hard rock, made a change from the local cuisine. Sick of noodles & rice.
So far phi phi and the fantasea show have been the highlight of our time in Thailand.
