Sooner or later it had to happen. Probably picked up some bacteria colony with last night's dinner. The stomach cramps started at 2AM, traveler's diarrhea. Around here also nicknamed "Bali Belly".
Luckily i had the right pills with me. But the cramps still return from time to time.
Got picked up by my driver in the morning and we headed straight to Ubud. First to the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, with free-range monkey rowdy's. Later i strolled through the lovely town with its endless art and crafts shops. From there we went to the famous rice terraces where we stopped for a scenic lunch.
Next stop Kintamani Volcano in the north of Bali. It was surprisingly cool up there at the viewpoint. But the clouds prevented any good picture-taking. Drove back south to another temple visit. Before we drove back to Kuta we made a last stop at Elephant Cave, re-discovered in the 1920's. It's a temple carved into solid rock. Timing was lucky because today they celebrated the Full Moon Festival. Quite an experience!

Frueher oder spaeter musste es passieren. Wahrscheinlich nahm ich mit dem Abendessen auch eine Bakterienkolonie zu mir. Die Magenkraempfe starteten gegen 2 Uhr morgens, Durchfall. In dieser Region liebevoll auch "Bali Belly" (Bali Bauch) genannt. Gluecklicherweise hatte ich gleich die Pillen parat. Aber die Kraempfe kehren immer mal wieder zurrueck von Zeit zu Zeit.
Mein Fahrer holte mich am Morgen ab und wir fuhren gleich nach Ubud. Zuerst zum Monkey Forest Sanctuary, mit seinen ungehinderten Affen-Rowdy's. Spaeter spazierte ich noch durch die nette Stadt vorbei an endlosen Kunstgeschaeften. Von dort fuhren wir zu den beruehmten Reisterrassen, wo wir zum Mittagessen hielten, mit traumhafter Kulisse.
Naechster Halt war am Kintamani Vulkan im Norden von Bali, wo es erstaunlich kuehl war am Aussichtspunkt. Allerdings verhinderten die Wolken gute Photos. Von dort gings wieder suedlich zu einem anderen Tempel. Bevor wir zurrueck nach Kuta fuhren hielten wir noch an der Elephant Hoehle, einen in den Fels gehauenen Tempel der erst in den 1920'ern wiederentdeckt wurde. Dort war gerade das Full Moon Festival im Gange. Ein Erlebnis fuer sich!
