Went to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum today. The former high school was turned into the notorious Security Prison S-21, a site of unimaginable cruel tortures during the 4-year reign of the Communist Red Khmer between 1975 and 1979. Even though that happened more than 30 years ago it is heartbreaking to walk through these rooms knowing what happened to innocent people there. It's a chilling reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant towards Communism and fight this inhuman ideology wherever it resurfaces. And when i talked to Cambodians about this issue it shows that even today the country is still trying to cope with the aftermath of these traumatic years. And as in Europe the guilty leaders never had to face justice...

On a lighter note the space shuttle "Endeavour" made its way inch by inch through the streets of L.A. from the airport to its final resting place at the California Science Center.


Heute besuchte ich das Tuol Sleng Genozid Museum. Die fruehere Schule wurde waehrend des Regimes der kommunistischen Roten Khmer von 1975 bis 1979 in das beruechtigte politische Gefaengnis S-21 umgebaut, in dem unvorstellbare Folterungen durchgefuehrt wurden. Auch wenn das inzwischen ueber 30 Jahre her ist, ist es herzzerreisend sich die Ausstellung anzusehen und durch die Raeume zu gehen, wissend was dort passiert ist. Das Museum erinnert daran wachsam zu bleiben gegenueber kommunistischen Aktivitaeten und sich dieser unmenschlichen Ideologie entgegenzustellen wo immer sie wieder auftaucht. Als ich mit Kambodschanern darueber sprach zeigte sich, dass das Land selbst heute noch unter den Nachwirkungen dieser traumatischen Jahre leidet. Und wie in Europa ist die schuldige Fuehrung nie zur Verantwortung gezogen worden.

Um zu etwas Erfreulicherem ueberzugehen, die Raumfaehre "Endeavour" schob sich heute cm um cm durch die Strassen von L.A. auf ihrem Weg vom Flughafen zum permanenten Ausstellungsort im California Science Center.
