We took our time in the morning, woke up late and had breakfast. Brennin and Darius went for a swim.
We arrived at the dock at 1:30 and boarded our boat at 2:00. It was an orange and white cateraman called Solana. Our captain was a laid back Jamaican with dreadlocks pulled back. The second crew member was a local lady who explained everything in English to us. There were only 12 people on the 28 passenger boat, 6 being our family, so there was a lot of room to move around.
Underneath the covered section of the boat flowers, and and a canvas painting were set out for decoration. They had cake, coffee, pop and punch for refreshments. Belia was all about the cake, and the other three thought free pop was great!
The uncovered part had two large net areas to relax on. Looking down through the nets into the water was fun. Our favorite part was standing near the bow while the boat went over waves. The boat sat high in the water making the the rise and fall a lot of fun.
The boat stopped for around an hour in a bay. Originally we planned on stopping next to a small island, (the island that is the inspiration for the island in the animated movie Tin Tin) but it was too windy for snorkeling so we went into a protected bay. Belia and I kayaked around the boat, she was nervous so I paddled in between the pontoons where a set of steps were set out, and she climbed back on board. Darius, Tim and Brennin had a ball jumping off the bow of the boat. Brennin and Darius snorkeled from the boat to the shore and found a few fish along the way; not as many or as colorful as the Caribbean fish, but they said still very nice. They saw many black sea urchins. With the waves they had to be careful not to get too close to the spines.
The ride home was sunny and they put out one of the sails. It was nice to sail instead of use the motor.
When we got to shore Mariah desperately tried to convince Belia and I to parasail, I refused, but Belia wanted to. Tim was going to take her but because of the winds they were not taking kids.
In the evening we drove to Cannes. The boats we saw in the Harbor were incredible. Some were dry docked, which was interesting to see, and most were parked in the harbor for the night. They were mostly 80 foot and larger luxury yachts. One that really got our attention was called The Black Legend. Aside from being huge it has it's own motor boat and sea-doo that look like miniature toys beside it. When we googled the boat we read that Simon Cowell from American Idle has leased the boat, as well as other celebrities.
Past the dock we could see artists selling their pictures, jewelry, pottery etc.. One of the artists had a pottery wheel and made miniature pottery for kids while they watched. It was intriguing to see how effortlessly he took a lump of clay and turned it into a beautifully shaped vase, pot, cup etc.. Darius and Belia both waited to have pieces made for them.
The girls spotted a character artist and had their characters done together. He did an o.k job, but none of us thought he really captured them.
We stopped at McD's for wifi. I had a nice conversation with grandma and Deby.
We walked around for a bit enjoying the feel of Cannes at night before going back to the campground. When we got back the sound of the crickets was very loud, it's amazing that something that small can produce so much noise!
