2 weeks in Kovalam in Kerela, South India.
Flying into Trivandrum airport in the middle of the night was an experience in itself.
The heat that met us as we stepped of the plan was a small insight of the climates we were due to have.
We arrived at Shirley's guest house after a long walk on narrow raised footpaths with our cases, only wanting a soft comfortable bed, somewhere to put our heads down for a well needed night sleep.
I was sent upstairs (sent away from everyone else) into what only can be described as a prison cell. Bars on the windows included!
If I'd have known I was sharing my 'cell' with two lizards I would have shared the room costs with them...!
We managed 3 nights in Shirley's before the concrete beds, cold water, non flushing toilets, electricity cuts got TOO much. We found a hotel called the Thushara just down the road for £9 per/night, with decent working fans in the rooms, proper fitted bathrooms, with toilets that flushed, electricity and a fairly comfortable bed, perfect.
Great days out to include the Apey Backwaters on the rice boats, elephant trekking day in the forest. We got to wash the elephants in the river, feed them and take a ride on their back, brilliant!
We also had a day in Trivandrum, which was unbelievable!! I have never heard so much car horns in my life, all at the same time! So noisy! I wonder how many people die from being hit by tut tuts?
The water at our beach was so clear and warm, you couldnt not go in it everyday. We had a great laugh jumping the waves and watching the fish and hermit crabs.
We were fortunate enough to experience the Solar Eclipse at midday on the beach.
