For those of you that are just starting to receive my blog notices please feel free to go back to the previous few entries to catch up. I was just getting the blog going and didn't want to be sending out the notice of my updates until I was sure that I was going to use this site. If you would like me to remove you from the notice list please let me know and I will do that no problem.
I plan to update the blog a couple of times or three a week as I am doing quite a bit of travelling but once I settle somewhere (Spain) I will only be updating it once a week.
I sadly left Lahinch on Thursday morning and headed towards the Aran Islands. I had to take the bus from Lahinch to Doolin. Dropped off my big bag and just took my day pack for two nights on Inish Mor. The ferry took us to Inishere first and was to come back in an hour and a half. Two and a half hours later they arrived. The weather was spectacular and I am sun burnt and wind burnt as a result. Who knew Ireland could get so bright.
The ferry took us to Inishmore and I hiked up to the hostel. The Artist Hostel could have used some help from an artist but I was the only one in a 5 bed dorm so I can't complain I guess. Not bad for 17 Euro's. I went up to the pub for a pint to listen to a local guy perform. He was good but really only played US and British music. I was looking forward to some Irish music.
The first pickup attempt of the trip happened last night by a lobster fisherman no less. Thank goodness that the French family that was staying at the hostel was nearby and I could make a break for it.
Today I spent on a bike riding around the island. 4 hours later and my butt was done for the day. The B & B that I am staying at was built in the 1930's for a movie call "Man of Aran". A documentary detailing the life of the people living on the Aran Islands. Very nice B & B and the owner made a lovely dinner of cod and fresh veggies from the garden. Potatoes, turnip, carrots, and kale. Also a fresh salad and yummy soup to start.
If you refer to the photo's from Aran Island you will see reference to Dun Angus. Here is the actual and correct spelling......as taken from Wikipedea……..”Dún Aonghasa is the most famous of several prehistoric forts on the Aran Islands, of County Galway, Ireland. It is located on Inishmore at the edge of an approximately 100 metre high cliff. A popular tourist attraction, Dún Aonghasa is an important archaeological site that also offers a spectacular view. It is not known when Dún Aonghasa was built, though it is now thought to date from the Iron Ages T. F. O'Rahilly surmised that it was built in the second century B.C. by the Builg following the Laginian conquest of Connacht. It was probably originally constructed as a circular ring fort several hundred metres from the coast, its present precarious position being the result of centuries of coastal erosion. Dún Aonghasa has been called "the most magnificent barbaric monument in Europe." The Proto-Celtic name, meaning "Fort of Aonghas", refers to the pre-Christian god of the same name described in Irish mythology.”
The fort is amazing and it was great to be able to walk around and be so close to something that has been around for thousands of years.
Enough for now. I am tried from a very busy day in the fresh air and need to turn in for now. More later. I am in Doolin for a couple of days and will get caught up on updates and individual emails then.
Take care of yourselves.
Miss you all.
