After a day of travelling that involved a taxi, train, plane, taxi, tuk-tuk, ferry and long-tail boat, we finally arrived on Railay Beach, where we arranged to meet up with Mike and Elese again (Tony’s mates who live in Perth). They were in Thailand for a wedding and had a few more days holiday before heading home. Railay beach was an a beautiful setting, although like a lot of the islands, it has been ruined a bit with tourism. Just too many people for a small, secluded bay. We did, however, stay for the night and managed to get some good sunset photos.
The next day, we took a boat back to Phuket, where our destination was once again Kata Beach. This is where Sabina and I had spent a few weeks already. It’s just an easy place to go, with the beach on the doorstep and plenty of bars and restaurants. I was also pretty keen to do some more hot yoga, so it all suited pretty well really to spend our last couple of weeks of the trip. Mike and Elese were with us for another couple of nights, and we made the most of this and had a pretty heavy drinking session on one of them. First hangover for a while for me!
The next 10 days or so were just spent chilling on the beach, and getting in a bit of last minute shopping. I got back into the hot yoga, and am determined to keep it going when back home.
We were planning to change our homebound flights from Hong Kong to Bangkok, but it worked out cheaper to fly to HK and keep the originals, so we are now having 4 days there, before heading back to Blighty. The weather forecast is a cooler 15-20 degrees, not what we’re used to at all. I guess it will be a gentler introduction back to the winter of England though.
