We arrived in Kuala Lumpur 6.30am Wednesday 16th and made our way to our China town hotel where we met our good friend Neil Haynes and spent the day, although feeling unclean and sleepy, exploring most of Kuala Lumpur. We went up the Menura tower to get 360 degree views at 451 meters of the city and we went to a very odd and unsafe small animal zoo where I had a photo taken with a snake and some crazy bird which the odd man decided to put on top of my head so that he could eat my hairclip! We didn’t stay long as the oversized collection of spiders was starting to bother Tony and the fact we could buy a live chicken for 2 GBP and feed it alive to the snakes or foxes didn’t put me at ease. We spent the afternoon walking around and exploring the malls, discussing of course Tony’s favourite subject of golf and my favourite subject of Twlight! We had a big and yummy meal in China town and spent the night drinking beer, smoking shisha at the local reggae bar – which is where I write this blog.
The following day was Neil’s 30th birthday, so Happy Birthday to him! We checked out the Indian district and had lunch snacks at the Central Markets. We then found ourselves back the Reggae bar having beer, cheesy fries and playing pool.
A couple of days after we got a short flight to Penang, we spent our first night in Georgetown and walked around the hectic streets, visited the chocolate boutique to try lots of different types of chocolate – the chilli chocolate was quite interesting but I stuck to my favourite chocolate truffles. We had a night of drinks, nomination and bar snacks and then slowly made our way to the bay. We stayed at the Hydro Hotel on the coast which was the start of our Christmas luxury! We spent our time by the pool during the day and spent our evenings exploring the night markets and having the local food. We took a day trip to visit a local waterfall and took the sky lift to the top of Penang Hill. Took 30 minutes to reach the top but the views were amazing. There were also an amazing amount of big black spiders which didn’t please Tony too much. We saw beautiful temples and ate quite yummy but cheap food which was nice after our very expensive time in American and Fiji.
Overall, I enjoyed the first leg of our Asia travels, I really wish we had stayed in Singapore longer, I think there was a lot more to see and explore so wish our plans hadn’t been so concrete so we could have had a few more days there.
