The journey was broken up at one point though by the need to cross a couple of hundred metres of open lake. All the passengers had to disembark and pay the 20p to get taken across in a small speedboat as we watched the bus get floated across on what is basically a giant raft before getting back on board.
Rachel and Liam had booked an apartment for the night which was amazing - with fantastic views, circular beds and a jacuzzi. I was booked into the hostel next door as there was no more space but spent the evening in their luxury pad where Rachel cooked fajitas and Liam made cocktails - I was DJ for the evening :)! I also realised that i had failed to collect my laundry in La Paz, and left my washbag too, whilst R + L had left their towels too.
So next morning i was up early and took a local bus back to La Paz which arrived around 2pm. Unfortunately, there were strikes in town though so getting a taxi across town seemed to take forever. When i finally arrived at the hostel i was relieved to be reunited with my laundry, washbag and the 2 towels and so after treating myself to a Burger King I got back on a bus to Copacabana. I arrived around 9pm but knew that i too were staying in the amazing hostel (Los Olas), so after dinner out we returned for a drink or two before i turned in for the night in my circular bed.
Next morning we were up early ready for our tour to the Isla de la Luna and Isla de La Sol. These islands were where the Incas believed the moon and sun were born. It was a 2hr journey to the Isla de La Luna. The island itself was quite small and had a very small population of self sufficient farmers. Unfortunately, the tour was in Spanish so R + L and I walked ahead completing the 30m walk and exploring some small ruins on the other side of the island. After i had trout from the lake for lunch before getting back on the boat to Isla de La Sol. This island was also a bit underwhelming, especially considering its the birthplace of the sun. Sadly, we were not docked long enough to find the ruins on the island though and after the steep climb and altitude had started to have an effect we settled in a restaurant for a snack before returning back to the mainland in the afternoon.
We had an hour on the mainland before catching the bus out of town, and out of Bolivia to Peru. We passed through the border patrol without any issues and headed onwards for 4 hours to Puno on the far side of Lake Titicaca in Peru.
