Toms Intrepid Travels
Well now we have hit the Real Australia! Sydney was beautiful, but in esscence you could be anywhere. But now we were headed into the bush, on the first legs of our Ox Experince trip.
Our first stop was Barrington Tops, where it was bloody freezing! Ok when the sun was up, but as soon as that baby dissapeared, it was just a wee bit nippy! So we obviously did the most sensible thing....jump in a single kayak, then into a freezing river, then over some white water rapids......in the pitch black! Yes my friends, black water rafting, it was intense! Luckily we had a nice hot tub and beer waiting for us at the end to enjoy underneath the most incredible night sky i've ever seen!
But what makes this typically Australian, is the people. Big, brash, a filthy sense of humour, but overall a great laugh and so laid back. And such strong aussie accents. I love it.
The second night was spent on a horse station in Bingara, where most of the group went off on a trail ride into the bush (i saved my money and my arse), before spending the rest of the night in a true local! The only pub for god knows how many miles, it had a great atmosphere. It felt like crocodile dundee just without the snakeskins and the salloon doors!
The next day we took a trip to Bald Rock, the sister of Uluru and the largest granite outcrop in the southern hemisphere (i think). So we climbed it! The views from the top though were incredible! It really did feel like you were looking out over the whole world (see photo). I just hope we get to see a little more of this side of Australia.
