Well this should be a fairly short blog for 2 reasons, it pretty much rained all the time we were there and because of this we only stayed 2 nights. We got to Samui from Phangan event free, although the boat ride there was a little bumpy, not exactly what Zo needed with how she was feeling. On arriving to our accommodation by taxi I recognised exactly where we were from 3 years ago…we were right in the middle of the bar, nightclub and sleazy area on Chaweng. It was clear from the start that Zo and Lisa feared the worst, whereas Tom and I thought it would be a good thing. This was until we were warned how incredibly noisy it would be and Tom's room was apparently not good at all. Zo stayed in bed during the day to get some R&R while the three of us when to have a look around Samui and at the same time somewhere else to stay for the following night. It rained on and off all day. Eventually quite far from where we staying we found some rooms that were right up our street. We grabbed a drink on the way back to the hotel we stopped for a drink at an Irish bar. In the evening we went for some food close by and we went for a walk down the street so Zo could see a bit of it. However the night didn't end there, when back at the hotel room it was clear it was in fact going to be a noisy night. The clubs and bars surrounding us were really banging out the tunes, so much so that the window frames were shaking. When we looked outside all we could see was middle to old aged men roaming the streets eyeing up all the prostitutes/lady boys in the bars surrounding. That's where it ended for me as I did manage to go to sleep and sleep all night long, however the same couldn't be said for the other three. The next thing I knew was I was awake listening to what turned out to be a sole club still banging out the beats at around 8am. When we went down for breakfast I walked up the street to see where the noise was coming from, I came across a club with the whole place covered in mirrored windows. Looking at this place must have made me look like I wanted to go in because two lady boys poked their heads around the door and waved me in. I thanked them for the offer and made my way back to where Zo was very quickly!
After breakfast we went back packed up our stuff and got ready to move guest houses. However it began to rain...and hard! It didn't seem like easing up so we got a taxi. Zo and I headed out to look for somewhere to grab a drink and a bite to eat; again the ponchos came to the rescue. We spent the afternoon catching up on our diaries. In the evening we went for a pizza and some cocktails to cheer ourselves up as the rain never gave up all day. We decided we wanted to go find some sunshine so we booked our tickets for the following morning. We ended up leaving Koh Samui not having the same enjoyable experience as I did 3 years ago, all because of the weather. South Thailand is not a good place to be when it is raining. We never even saw the beach. It didn't look anything like the photo but couldn't find one on the STA website of it raining. We were told that usually if the weather is bad on one coast it is usually pretty good on the other. Let's hope so!
