Tom C-B's Travels 2006
MONDAY (night)
Everyone got together tonight to watch the diving videos. There was some decent footage of our group, but the DVD cost 2,500 Baht, so it was a souvenir I was going to have to do without! After watching the DVD we went out to 'Choppers Bar and Grill' in nearby village Sai ree for dinner, then moved on to Pure bar for apres-dive drinks. We didn't go too mad, as we had to be up for a boat to Koh Phangan in the morning, but we had a good night regardless, and got back to the room at about midnight to pack our bags.
TUESDAY
Our boat was due to leave for Koh Phangan at 9:30 so we checked out and got a quick breakfast at Café del Sol before getting to the ferry pier. The boat journey took about an hour and we took a taxi to our accommodation in Ban Tai, on the southwestern side of the island. Once there we relaxed and I drifted off for a siesta in the hammock on our balcony.
By the time it got to late afternoon, we decided to walk down to the southern end of the island to Haadrin, a popular place with backpackers. We got halfway and chickened out, as the heat was still pretty intense, so we hailed a taxi that was passing by and got to Haadrin the easy way.
We browsed around the shops and wandered along the beach until we found an inviting looking café that was showing a film, and decided to wile away the rest of the afternoon there. We left when our stomachs told us to, and we went in search of a restaurant. Dinner was good, and Kim experimented with her first Thai Green Curry, which turned out to be successful. Then we walked along the beach to walk our dinner off a little, and went to a bar set in the side of the cliff above the beach to relax before catching a taxi back to our accommodation.
WEDNESDAY
We started the morning slowly, just because we could, and after showering had a leisurely breakfast by the sea. After that we found chairs on the beach, applied the sun lotion, and settled down with our books. The clock crept round and it was 3 o'clock before we knew it, so we decided it was time to be a bit more pro-active and make the most of our time here. We gathered up our stuff that was strewn across the beach, and started walking towards Thongsala, the main port of the island.
It was on our way there that we found cheap Internet, so we made a pit stop and hopped on.
That's all so far from Koh Phangan - I expect we'll have dinner in Thongsala tonight but this is going to be our chill out time before we get back to Bangkok so don't expect many more exciting journal entries for the time being!
Off to see what we can see in Thongsala... See ya later
