Tom C-B's Travels 2006
Hey everybody! Have been in Sydney now since Friday night so I've got a lot to tell you about!
FRIDAY
Not much to report from today, because we boarded the bus to Sydney at 7am, and arrived in Sydney at 7:45pm! We went through Canberra, possibly the most disappointing, drab, and dreary capital of a country you will ever see, and took a few photos of a beautiful sunset through the window of the coach. When we arrived in Sydney we met up with Harry and Izzy who had sorted us out with a 4-share room at their hostel, so we all moved in to the same room and began our time in Sydney...
SATURDAY
After meeting up with Harry and Izzy the previous night, we had quite a lazy morning at our leisure, with Harry and Izzy only too happy to rest while Kim and I caught up on some sleep after our horribly early morning and mega bus journey the day before! We eventually stirred from our pits and left the hostel at about 1pm in search of nourishment. We went to the food hall at 'Paddy's Market' where we supped on freshly squeezed fruit juices, cheap chinese, and sushi. After our oriental feast, we hopped on a train to Cronulla, where there was a food and wine festival taking place on the seafront. We trawled through the colourful array of international cuisine stalls while listening to the live band that was performing on stage. There were not as many free tastings as we had hoped/expected, but we had a good time nevertheless, and wandered back along the beach to the train station. We had decided on kangaroo steaks for dinner so a quick trip to the supermarket and we were ready to prepare our meal. The girls were left in charge of the veggies while Harry and I took care of the steaks and the fried potatoes. It all came together perfectly and there were many envious stares in our direction as we sat down to eat. After dinner we went out to the highly recommended 'Scubar' for a few 'first-night-in-Sydney' drinks. It was not as busy as we had expected, but we were assured that it was the place to be on monday night due to the fact that that was 'crab-racing' night! With that in mind, we made a promise to return on monday and headed home for some rest as Harry and I were working the following morning...
SUNDAY
"Work?!" I hear you say... Well to keep a long story short, someone came into the hostel asking if anyone wanted any cash in hand work and Harry and I both though "why not?" so we volunteered and now we are masquerading as removal men!
So anyway, Harry set off at 7am for the first job of the day, while I had the luxury of only having to meet at 1pm for the last two jobs of the day. I won't go into the details of each move as I could be here for a considerable amount of time, but it was good to do some exercise and see what moving house was like from a different perspective. We didn't finish until about 8:30pm, but the fact that our last customer presented us with a case of 24 beers at the end put a smile on our faces, and we walked home $80 and 17 beers richer (after giving 7 to our boss)!
The girls had gone out to another Neighbours Night (Boyd (?) was there), so Harry and I treated oursleves to some Pad Thai, and promptly fell asleep, full of good food and free beer.
