So here we are again! We got our final Greyhound bus trip all the way past Canberra (no need to stop there- its only the capital!) through to Melbourne. We arrived in the morning and decided to head out and see the city. We were staying right in the heart of the city so it was really easy to get around. First impressions were that it was an amazing city- loads of nice buildings, loads of cool restaurants and little back streets with hidden bars- very cool! Melbourne also has some of the best shopping in Australia- so i had to keep Maria on a tight reign! We spent the day just walking around, talking it all in. We went to China Town in the evening for a really nice meal and then went for a walk by the River Yarra which runs right through the city. Its a great place to walk or have a BBQ.
After having to wear jackets for most of yesterday we understood what the locals meant about the ever changing Melbourne weather - we spent most of today walking around sweating! We headed to an area called Fitzroy just outside of the main city centre. Apparently it is the 'boho' area of Melbourne which is meant to be quite a nice place to be but it wasn't anything special. Maybe it was too hot for us to appreciate! Maria was constantly moaning about the heat so we headed back into Melbourne. Its great cos there is a free city tram and bus system. Melbourne has thought of everything! The heat and pending excitement of getting our campervan sent us to bed early! Theres so much to do in Melbourne that we knew we'd still have plenty to do on our return.
