Ok so since we left Thailand about a week ago...well it seems that long but it wasnt...we have travelled much of southern Thailand and found out there wasn't much to see or do...especially now it is low season. We were originally planning to go to an island called Koh Mook as it is famed for its beaches and emerald lagoon but there wasnt anyway of getting there as its low season! Great! So we spent a night in a place called Trang...land of nothing! It was so dead. I must admit having been stuck on the travellers trail for the last 6 weeks it felt really wierd to both of us to be in such a deserted place! We were looking for a place to eat for about half and hour and nearly retired to our room with a packet of crisps before we eventually found somewhere. We have been used to restaurants every few feet. I suppose this is what travelling is all about. We were literally the only travellers around. To be fair everyone seemed much more friendly than all the other places we have been. No one has been scarred by horrible tourists demanding chips and pizza!
As there were no traveller places to by joint tickets to places (at a more expensive rate i might add) we had to stick to all the transport that the thai people used. It was much cheaper but we had to figure out where we were having to get off in broken English...i hate not being able to speak thai...but to be fair i'd expect a gold medal if we did...its so hard! Anyway after deciding there was not much else to see in Thailand we made our (premature) departure to Malaysia and our first stop was Langkawi Island.
Once we got there it seemed like a dream world compared to the sparsity of southern Thailand. Its a busy bustling place in the capital but once you head out it seems like everyone evacuated about 10 years ago and never came back. There are huge hotels and waterparks that are just desolate! Very strange.
Tom and I headed to the beach and found accomodation and settled for 2 nights. It was nice to relax for a bit after the mamouth travelling session we had endured to get here. The beach was beautiful. Really long and white but the sea wasnt as crystal blue as in some places in Thailand!
After 2 days of chilling out it was time to leave Langkawi and make our way to the Malaysian Peninsular. See you when we get there.
