Hello all!
Sorry for the gap in blogs, (it seems STA Travel has a fickle web-system!).
Following on from our last blog, we went on to Bamboo beach in Koh Lanta. This beach was at Koh Lanta's furthest tip and for a good distance there were no roads - only dirt track - and we were in a Sangthaew, which is like an open truck! We got absolutely covered in dust and when we got to the beach our room was absolutely nasty! I woke up in the morning with a half dead cockroach underneath me - what a nice surprise! We trekked to the nearby 'waterfall'. This was a disaster as the walk was miles and both of my flip flops broke and I didnt have any other shoes!
Once we arrived at the 'waterfall', we overheard a worker there say that there was no water in the waterfall! I have never been so livid in my life - it took Tom a long time to calm me (and my sore feet) down! (Tom: Make that a few days...!)
The next day we escaped Bamboo beach to Krabi where we stayed in a lovely hotel, although the bed felt like it was made out of concrete. We may have accidentally scoffed an entire KFC bargain bucket between us too!
The next day we caught a 12 hour bus to Bangkok. This bus was honestly the brightest bus we had ever seen. It was lurid pink with even brighter pink cushions and interior and there was pumping loud Thai music playing too! (Much to the dismay of a German woman next to us.......hahahaha!) If you had a hangover you would have died!
We arrived at Bangkok at about 5 in the morning and our hotel here is lovely - right amonsgt loads more mallls and trendy shopping streets. We have been in Bangkok for a few days now - and we have seen the Grand Palace, the Emerald Buddha, the Golden Mount and the democracy monument. Today we went to chatuchak market - the biggest weekend market in the world - which was so vast that it was impossible to see it all! The temperature here tops 33 every day and it is sooo humid! Oooh - also, we went to see Avatar at the IMAX cinema here which was absolutely amazing! (Tom to Lucy's Dad - "ner ner, ner neeer ner!") It was like nothing we had ever seen before - only downside was the stupid glasses we had to wear (see picture).
Tonight we are going to Patpong Market and tomorrow to the reclining buddha and China Town. We leave Bangkok on the 2nd to go via 10 hour bus to Chiang Mai! The flower festival is on whilst we are there so we will take plenty of photos for you Granny!
Love to all of you!
