We have had a very full week since we last wrote. Early last week we spent a day in the Buenos Aires suburb of Tigre, a city entirely connected by canals and rivers.Tigre is a bit like Venice (without the history and old architecture) and is primarily a summer-home destination, filled with people from Buenos Aires eager to escape the oppressive city heat and enjoy the cool water of the river. We took a ferry out to one of the islands where we ate lunch and then strolled around the island.Tigre felt like an alternate universe from Buenos Aires, with a much slower pace. The train ride out to Tigre was also rather fun, allowing us to see a bit more of the Argentine countryside.
Back in Buenos Aires, we went to our first tango show.Todd attended a large, Las Vegas style tango show when he was in Buenos Aires a few years ago, so we opted instead for a small, dinner-theater style show.We arrived at the small restaurant and were immediately led to a table directly in front of the stage. The musicians were wonderful, the dancing incredible, and the seats unbeatable! We had a fantastic night, thoroughly enjoyed the intimate atmosphere, and were glad that we were at a small venue rather than one of the large shows that populate this city. The intricate footwork of the tango dance and the soulful tango music inspired both of us in the moment, and we left the restaurant wanting to learn the tango. We hope to squeeze in a lesson while we are still here in Buenos Aires. If not, perhaps dancing lessons will be a goal back in the United States…
