Tobes on the Go!
On Tuesday night I arrived at Dusseldorf-Neiderheim airport - again Ryanair use the link to Dusseldorf loosely as it's nearly an hour's cab ride from Dusseldorf at speeds up to 180km/h! (Don't worry, I felt safe it was a Mercedes after all)
Wasn't feeling the greatest on Wednesday morning as I have been fighting of a bit of flu or something, but I haven't let it slow me down too much.
When I did start walking around Dusseldorf I found that it is a compact (according to Lonely Planet the population is under 600,000) and pretty city - this is despite it being largely rebuilt after WW2 - there wasn't much left after Allied bombing raids.
I wandered through the Aldstadt (old city) and then along the Rhine, which are very picturesque.
I went to the two of the main museums (there are heaps in Dusseldorf) K20 and K21 - the first focuses on 20th Century art and has a great collection of Picasso, Matisse and especially Klee. The collection at K21 is post-1980 mainly with a few exceptions.
On Wednesday night went to a traditional beer hall where I drank Alt, a dark bitter style beer - though I like some bitters I think I may leave that one alone in future.
Thursday morning saw me go to the top of the Radio tower and take in some great views across Dusseldorf and the Rhine-Westphalia region.
From there, it was a train to Cologne - I'm about to go see the Dom (cathedral).
Off to Paris tomorrow morning.
See ya soon.
