Hmmm..shouldn't have left it this late to write this!! Oh well, here goes:
So yeah...left San Diego full of anticipation, first stop was Tucson, Arizona. About an 8hour drive, lots of nice desert on either side and lots of trucks - this wouldnt be the first time for this!! Pretty much went straight to bed that evening - quite warm in the night! The next day we went on a 8mile hike (in 40plus degrees!) up Sabino Canyon to a trickle of a waterfall - saw lots of lizards which was cool and a random duck! Found a park with outdoor gym equipment so did a quick, hot workout then sleep. Next in Tucson was a visit to the Centre for Creative Photography and Arizona State Museum. Both very interesting.
Next on the itinerary was the 6hour drive to El Paso, Texas. Heard on the radio that we just missed the police finding 2 beheaded corpses on the street by a day or two!! Good timing! Didn't see anything like that when we were there (thank God). Was actually really cool place - had a big meal in Taco Bell (nice treat for us - lots of burritos!!) Saw Museum of El Paso History, the Contemporary Art Museum (which was awesome! - really like the sculptures) and the Chamizal monument - celebrating the end of the argument over land between US and Mexico because of the Rio Grande's erosion over time... (marked the border). Found another good park for a workout :)
Left the next morning and completed a 10hour drive to San Antonio, Texas - home of the Alamo (Travis and Crockett Vs. thousands of Mexicans), a funky night market (held on the first friday of every month) and a nice Gold's Gym (especially when u get let in for free!!).
Short drive to Houston was next (just 4hours). Saw a couple of Folk Art exhibits including: The Orange show, Beer can house and Art Car museum. All very strange and good in their very different ways! Another good park in Houston for a run, pity it was in the high 30's! Phew...that was a hard one.. The next day got some Laundry done and went to the NASA Space centre Houston - great place with lots to do! Got to act like a big kid - not that i dont do that pretty much every day!!
