Dean and Claire's t'internet travel journal
Hello again,
Just had to write another postcard as we've had such a good day! We've just been tubing down the river! ...Okay, so I guess most people don't have a clue what tubing actually is. Basically, you hire a big rubber dingy, a life jacket, then catch a tuk tuk (taxi type thing) to the top of the river then sit upon your inflatable and sail down stream. It was sooo much fun.
As you sail along there are various stop points, where the Laos locals hold a stick out to you and pull you towards their little bars... There was lots of BeerLaos involved in the venture.
Each stop point also had a different kind of jump that you could do, such a rope swings and diving boards. I took ages to pluck up the courage to jump off the first one (about five metres high) but when I actually did jump I managed to belly flop and wind myself. that was the last of my jumping extravaganza.
Dean however, managed to complete them all. The scariest one was a swing which you stand on while three men pull you back so you are at a great height. They then release you and you swing forward and fling yourself into the river (it's all very graceful). One of the barmen was also giving out shots of Whiskey (would've been rude to refuse). Needless to say we all ended up a bit wasted.
The scenery was also spectacular. We sailed along the river clutching our bottles of beer Laos and looking out onto a back drop of beautiful mountains and vegetation. bliss.
Anyways, we are now off to meet some of the guys we met during our tubing experience,
bye all
