Sat 7th Feb: Arrived in Kuala Lumpur after a 6 hour coach jouney, was actually pretty comfortable the seats reclined back and had full leg rests! Our accomodation was right in the thick of it in China Town which come the evening is full of stalls selling pretty much everything u can imagine!! Met out first travel buddies, the Lie family! Lie was chinese, bought up in malyasia met his wife and married in England and then moved to Australia! He was travekiong through malaysia for a month with his 2 kids Manli and Sew-yee. Very nice interesting people who gave us lots of tipos for the rest of our trip in Malaysia. Spent the evening wondering the china town markets, Trish convinced me to have dinner from a Hawker stand like the locals. We were offered in very broken english either curry or soup. trish had soup with contained fairly distinguishiable ingrediants and tasted pretty. My Curry however, while tasting nice was full of some very dodgy looking 'lumps'! I managed the noodles and sauce but wasnt brave enough for anything else, cant grumble as it was about 2 quid for both meals and drinks!
Sun 8th Feb: Up bright and early for a city tour! Driver was knowlegable and spoke good english, saw all the important sights; Petranas towers, golden triangle, kings palace, war memorials and the tallest flag polke in the world (this was exciting as we didnt expect to see such a large flag pole lol!) We also stopped at a few facories including leather (this place sold things made of stingray!), batik and chocolate! Got back to the Hostel and got chatting to the Lie family again. We all went out for dinner and as Lie spoke the lingo he took us to a chinese restaurant that was really out the way. The sort of place Trish and i could never of gone on our own as no one spoke english and the menu looked like an optical illusion! We sat back as Lie ordered with intrigue. What a treat we were in for! Was an amazing meal consisting of a whole fish, head eyes and all with a big soup noodle dish along with veg and chilli tofu. Was beautiful food, nothing like the chinese you gt at home! We were very touched as Lie treated us to the meal! We then all hit the markets, Lie was using his native tongue to our advantage and sweet talking the chinese market stall holders to get us the best price. He then tookm us to a fruit stall were we tried the most random looking fruit including one callked Duran which is the most disgusting thing we have ever eating, Trish was tasting it for hours after!! We did have a few we really enjoyed called Mangistines and giant jack fruit.
Had a great time in KL, meeting the lie family made all the difference, really kind nice people!
