Hi Guys, its Penny this time writing the log, so it will be slightly less organised I imagine!
We arrived at this little frontier town by the river and got to hotel oriental. It is a beautiful place as all the rooms face this lovely big courtyard full of trees, flowers and hammocks. It was lush!. We went out for some food and then organised ourselves for the next day. As we were getting up early to go into the rainforest. We went with a company called Chalalan, whom I cannot fault in any way, as they were fantastic, although a bit pricey. Someone picked us up in the morning and we spent 5 hours in a motor canoe, going down the River Beni and River Tuichi. It was really dreamy and so relaxing. On our way we saw parrotts, heron and Capybara, which are these rodent things that are the size of dogs. We got off the boat and had a walk to the rainforest to our lodge. We stayed at this ecolodge run by the local community in the middle of the rainforest, by a lagoon. We stayed in this sweet little hut (which had everything in it, we weren¢¥t sleeping on the floor or anything) and we had to go down this little trail to get there. We woke up to the sound of the red howler monkeys and had a lush healthy breakfast (loads of lush fruits)
We went on lots of treks and got extremely hot. We also did nighwalks and canoe trips while we were there. The guide was extremely nice and told us lots of interesting information about the rainorest and his local community. We saw a snake, alligator, teranchelor spider, three types of monkeys and loads of colourful birds, parrotts and caterplillers. It was ace. The best bit was when we were in this lagoon on a canoe, watching this massive group of monkeys swinging past for an hour. I was really sad to leave and wanted to stay at the lodge for at least a week longer, maybe then we might have seen a puma or a jaguar!!!!
We travelled back by boat to Rurrenabaque and managed to get our clothes washed in extra speedy time, so that we had clean clothes for La Paz. The flight back the next day was very interesting. We did not enjoy the smooth ride we had had on the way in. It was really bumpy, something hit the areoplane and then it jumped, we all flew off our seats and Tim hit his head on the roof of the areoplane (That will teach him for not putting his seat belt on properly)
We had such an amazing time in the Amazon and I would love to go back there and spend some more time prehaps doing a pampus trip as well as a jungle trip.
