We were awake early again this morning, at 5am! Showered by 6.30am and eating breakfast by 7am. It's easier getting up when you know it's going to be warm outside and you don't have to go to work!
We were meeting at 12pm on the dot, 'Rrrrenzzzzzo' didn't want us to be late. (Did I mention he is Peruvian but he has an Italian name and wants us to role our 'R's when we call him! Haha.
We had a free morning in Lima to do what we pleased, we decided to go for a walk around the area we were stopping in, it had some colourful buildings and lots of awesome graffiti all over the place, not like home where the 'graffiti artists' as they call themselves just draw squiggly lines on sign posts... these artists were - artists!
We walked down the steep hill to the beach, we didn't realise how much of a steep cliff Lima was on, good job really because it prevented tsunamis hitting them. The ocean wasn't that special for the Pacific anyways, and the beaches were yah-ok, nothing like Venice beach in Los Angeles! (You can't have it all though - right?)
We took a long stroll across the beach and walked up one of the big bridges to do a loop around the place. It seemed to have got nicer the further we got around, with flower beds and lots of cleaners about the place - a bit like Pontypool....
I don't think many people work on a Monday, there were tonnes of people running and doing their stretches and weight lifting workouts about the place!
We walked up to where we were staying, another beautiful old square with yellow buildings and flowers everywhere, we found 'dunkin donuts' - i know how terribly naughty of us but we just had to try one! They only have them in America, and you know what they say... 'when in America, try a Dunkin donut!' Haha. No they don't but that's what I'm saying...
They were delicious however, but looked so unhealthy for you for it was wrong! Haha.
We stopped in the bank to change some dollars into Peruvian soles because apparently they now prefer soles to dollars, news to me as on the Internet they recommend everyone prefers dollars. We kept $100 'emergency cash' as Renzo recommended and $50 tip for the Inca trail each. We also kept about $30 as well, most machines look like they allow you to choose what currency you take out anyways so it's not a problem!
I'm hoping we don't spend a lot more than what we have in cash, the restaurants we are eating in are pretty cheap and the water and snacks we are buying from the local shops are cheap too. The biggest problem we are having is the language barrier, it's not like Asia at all where people try to speak English due to tourism. 90% of people speak no English at all, I don't know how we would get about the place without a guide at the moment because there is no guidance or help with English speaking people or even sign posts in Spanish and English. It's nicer that way though, you know tourism and the Americans haven't engaged with their westernised terms. It's untouched at the moment...!
We met at 12pm, stickers on bags and bags in the minibus, we were off to the bus stop for our 8 hour drive to Nazca.
I'm glad we went for a walk this morning, most people didn't and now we have to sit down for at least 8hours again.
We had been upgraded which was a lovely surprise! The buses here are very nice! Huge spacious chairs with blankets and pillows, TVs in the back of every seat (good movies but only in Spanish with English subtitles, which is better than nothing)
We had huge arm rests that we could put our trays that we could stick the arms on the provided slots and it would balance up in front of us like we were in high chairs! Haha. I just needed some MULK.
Instead we had a chicken and rice pot with some sort of sauce on, a pasta and tomato cold salad and a piece of sponge. They love a carb diet over here! My god I'll start looking like a grain of rice or a potato soon!
My plan was to catch up on writing these blogs but my god I was tired, what is wrong with me! We slept about 5 hours of the journey and then watched we are the millers and game plan in Spanish with English subtitles... productive afternoon!
The bus journey went pretty fast, we were in Nazca for around 9pm, Renzo had sent a chart around for us to put down what good choice we wanted. Starter, main and a drink for 25 p/s it's so cheap! (That's about £6) and they're not small portions!
The hotel was lovely, we found a swimming pool! And the courtyard was full of cactus's, the bedrooms were standard and I had a rock as a pillow so I swooped it for a rolled up blanket which ended up me chasing a spider off of my bed! Great fun....
At least the bathroom was a little more spacious, in Lima you had to sit on the toilet to shut the door to be able to get to the shower and sink!
And we were still being spoilt with hot water!
We were right dirty stop outs tonight, going to bed at 11.30pm, especially when we had a busy day ahead of us tomorrow!
