Scott's stupid snoring woke me up again at 6.30am, I swear I'm wearing my ear plugs for Brazil! I keep kicking him and pushing him to turn over so he doesn't snore so much but he just ends up rolling back over again 5 minutes later, it's ridiculous!
But, I had 9 hours sleep last night which I must say is a personal best since last Thursday! Gold star to me!
I got out of bed around 7.30 and showered and finished packing our things up, my bag just keeps growing in size! I don't know why because I haven't put anything extra in it!m, and the toiletries bag is getting smaller?
We had breakfast with Slavy at 8.15am and then checked out of the room. We chilled in the lobby with him and Ben until around 11.15am before heading out to the airport. Renzo said we need to be there two to three hours before or flight even though we had checked in.
We got to the airport at 11.30am, we had dropped our bags off and gone straight through security by 11.45am! Now we have two hits to kill in a little room.
We bought a sandwich and a bottle of water so that we could use their wifi, Slavy was with us too, he had his flight an hour before us. This would be the second time we would say goodbye to him!
I hate waiting in airports I would rather just get there and walk straight to the gate and get on, it's so boring! But at the same time I find airports, big ones anyways... interesting. I always wonder where everyone is going and why.
The flight was on time (2.28pm) the weather was still sunny - the weather forecast lied! Also the plane journey was apparently 1 hour 30 minutes. Turns out it's only 55 minutes! Even better...
We had a bumpy start and I wasn't too fond of it I'm not going to lie. I'm not getting any better with these flights!
We landed at around 4pm, there was so much oxygen everywhere! We didn't know what had hit us! We both went light headed and felt a little dizzy. We have been at at least 2500 metres above sea level for around 10 days, we got to Lima and we are about 3 metres above sea level. We were literally drunk on air! Who needs the Peruvian cocaine or nitro gas (laughing gas) to get high! Just spend a week in the highlands with minimum oxygen! Haha.
Lima airport is a nightmare. We got off the plane and went straight through to baggage and the arrival hall without seeing any signs or instructions of how to get to connecting flights. I asked a baggage man in the hall and he told us what to do, I needed a second opinion though so I went to the Avianca check in desk which we had to go outside the airport and walk through another door to get to. She confirmed everything was fine and all we had to do was go through 'international departures' door.
We met Slavy in the food court and grabbed a bite to eat, he bought us a Starbucks latte aswell because he's an espresso-holic!
We sat with him until around 7pm chatting and then we left him for our gate. He had to wait until 8.30pm to check in... yuk! Or 'ai carumba' so he would say in his Bulgarian/American accent. He is so funny!
We said bye for the third time to him and this time I think it was the last...
We had a walk around in the departure lounge tried on a bunch of expensive sunglasses, for what I don't know because I'm guessing there is no sun back at home until about may!
We were both so tired now, just from waiting around to go and get to our next destination! Travel days are tiring and you don't do anything!!is that why they're tiring?
We began boarding at 8.40pm and we were departing Peru by 9.30pm.
What an amazing time we have had and in such a beautiful country! We both loved it here, the people and the places we seen. I think it's up there with India, ya know!
There's definitely more to see and Cusco is a must return, even just to do Rainbow mountain which we failed to do because we didn't get back in time to book on after the inca trail, but to be honest I don't think I could have physically done it with the tiredness I had!
Chow for now Peru, you wonderful country you!
