Slept well but woke up in the middle of the single bed in a ditch, I had to build momentum to roll myself out of the bed haha. I was quite happy there though, snug as a bug in a rug. Annie moaning about how cold it was. She clearly hasn't been in fresh air for a long time. That cold toilet seat in the morning when you sit down. Probably didn't help that I left the huge windows open with just the mozzy net there behind the curtains. On purpose of course because I knew that we would have that amazing fresh air and cold snap coming through!
We went for breakfast at 6:30AM, why are the Chinese SO loud in the mornings and have zero respect for anyone. It's so infuriating. We had some PORK bacon and a sausage, the bread was stale but the great coffee machine made up for it. Good ole Ken was ready at the reception with our trust van, we asked him to raise the roof at reception today so that when we got to the gate of the national park we did not have to wait and get bombarded with street vendors selling tacky homemade jewellery and trying to open the windows and doors on us.
We were going to be here all day long, that nervous pee feel was pending already. "Ken, what happens if we need the toilet?" "You take the Bush Toilet, haha!"
Great, looking forward to that one! haha.
We instantly saw loads of animals again, the water buck and zebra's hadn't moved very far since yesterday, they clearly enjoy the taste of that grass spot. After around 20 minutes, a pride of lions with 5 cubs walked out of the bush in front of our van and across the road, AMAZING! This led to us watching them for a long while and they started hunting the herd of zebra's but weren't very good at it or successful. Very Exciting though!
We proceeded to hunt for more animals, the same family of elephants as yesterday and ostriches with GREAT legs, never miss leg day is what I learnt from those birds!
Lots of silly little wart hogs snorting and running around the place, soon after we were looking for a safe space for lunch. A look out area, basically one tree on a hill so that if an animal decided we were their lunch we would be able to jump into the van very quickly. Turns out Ken isn't worried out leopards and lions, he is worried about water bucks and african buffalos because those damn things have horns and are tough and very large. Lunch was lovely on the blanket looking out at nothing but mountains and clouds and animals, roast chicken and some rolls so only one thing was meant by that - chicken sandwiches! Yummy Scrumcious! Another brush toilet and then time to go find some more animals.
Boy o Boy did we find animals! a huge herd of lions with the big daddy-o lion and hid maine. We found that they had just eaten their lunch, a water buck completely mauled and the 40 Vulcans were sat all over the corpse trying to eat the last of the meat and probably the eye balls and intestines.
We went on a walk with a ranger up the river to see the crocs and hippos aswell, missed the water crossing of the African buffalo's but we couldn't wait, this was right on the Tanzanian and Kenyan border. We then went to the look out point of the where the great crossing happens in July usually of all the animals from Tanzania to Kenya or south to north and where the river leave Kenya and follows on down to Tanzania.
After a lot of animal sight seeing we were slightly exhausted and gathered some snacks were in order for us to pair with our well earned tusker beers and ciders before we went for dinner. Some bags of crisps and back to the hotel for beers before we
Annie looks like a radish - red as hell from the sun, clearly not enough sun lotion or just isn't very good with the sun as me lol. Felt as though I was swaying in motion sat down having a beer I think because we were rocking and bobbing around all day with the uneven tracks we were on.
Made school friends mocked me for my accent saying Swahili and then they were mesmerised by my hair because theirs were artificial haha.
Acanti thank you
Jambo! Hello
Poli Poli slowly
Kariboe - welcome
Couldn't wait for a shower, although it dribbled out and didn't have much pressure to it, that would be much better when we get to the city we hoped anyways lol. Washing my hair took its time, I will end up giving the Masai Mara a drought.
Some guys came to take the spare single bed out of the room, Annie hiding in the bathroom because she believes that the towels are made for midgets and the dressing gowns for chinese women who only have a liquid diet haha.
Dinner was of course consisting of packed noodles cooked on the wasted BBQ, shame really that the place is run by these guys, it could be so authentic and lovely but they are set in their ways I guess.
We finished and sat outside on the terrace for a drink and desert, some dry sponge cake - yummy! The African dance wasn't as good as Zanzibar and lasted about 2 minutes. Not worth staying up for!
What a cracking way to spend the weekend in the Masai Mara! Such a great trip so far!
