We both went into comas last night, we didn't move an inch. We woke up in the same position we slept, on or backs. My back was feeling it this morning!
We woke ourselves up for 6am to shower and get ready, we booked an uber for 6.45 because we had to be in the train queue for 7.30am to pick our tickets up and couldn't be late.
I put in the address as half way up the CofR mountain... turns out I was wrong! We had to go back down the mountain to the actual train station!
Only trouble with uber you have to say you have completed a journey and then get a new one but the driver had no signal and lack of English didn't help either. We rolled back down the hill and he still didn't have any signal, he looked a little worried because I think he had to put in where he was going. We didn't have log to get to the ticket booth so our hearts were pumping a little bit now aswell. Scott showing it a little too much, I think even though these people can't speak English they still understand the odd swear word!
We managed to get down to the station in time and gave the driver extra because it was technically my fault that we went to the wrong address... whoops!
We got there in time and caught our train up for 8.20am - the first one up today. So hopefully their won't be many people up at the top!
We passed a few of 1000 favelas that surround Rio, they were a little like slums in India and the poor areas of Peru, they look simular to most poor areas in every foreign country. However, these we understood the danger of from reading about them and being told about them by other travellers. They held a suspense and un-nervy feeling on you, it was weird. You knew that they were making up mass amounts of illegal drugs in there or dealing weapons. Scary stuff!
We got to the top of the mountain, we were the first batch of people to reach the top so cameras were at the ready - fast! We were super excited, another wonder of the world ticked off our bucket list!
The statue stood at only around 40 metres high, it didn't seem so big at all. But still, it looked spectacular!
We took the views in of the Rio landscape and sat and just sort of stared at the statue for a while, it was awesome!
The weather was boiling! We stopped for a much needed drink and headed back down about 11am. Once we got to the bottom we used the free wifi to call an uber taxi, this time we were car sharing with another couple. They were going somewhere else, we were going to the Escadaria Selaron steps.
Apparently they're really famous - news to me?
Anyways, they were amazing! Every step and all the walls surrounding them were covered in colourful tiles, there was a bath tub on the side of one sets of steps. There was a bright blue toilet role holder in one step, most steps had pattern tiles and flags on them. It was so pretty! But I have no idea why they put it here, Scott seems to think it's because of the football (just because they've had a few action shots of a footballer doing a kick up on it with a ball) lol.
Afterwards we went went back to the hotel, we needed a dip in the pool! The temperature board outside the metro station read 39 degrees! It was bloody hot.
The metro was packed with people, not surprised though because it was being blasted with cool air conditioning! Such a clean and updated metro! I was expecting something super rough, turns out it's only the London Underground that is grubby compared to all the others we have been on in the world! Shock.
We were the last stop, we walked through the veg market grasping hold of our bags just as a precaution! It wasn't that we ever get unsafe we were just extra pre cautious with things like that.
You know what they say... *out of sight, out of mind*
We had lunch by the pool and a deserved beer or two! We played cards again and I lost three games of s***head... I will win one before we leave!!
We were late going out for food again this evening, we shared a 'steak kebab' with rice (of course - carb continent) it was lovely!
I managed to stay up until 11pm to check in.... turns out it wouldn't let me check in! What a waste of staying awake for nothing!
Oh well, lie in tomorrow!
