Friday 11 April
Continuing on up through the Parkway, we today leave North Carolina and head into Virginia. One of the places of interest to stop at today is Mabry Mill which is a working exhibit of a water mill and associated buildings from the 1800's.
Whilst at Mabry Mill, we notice two little dogs running around and it becomes apparent that neither of them are with their owners. One does have a collar with it's owners details but cellphone coverage on the Parkway is non existent. Katrina takes the details for when we get back to cellphone coverage and we can only hope that both of the dogs will come to no harm. Just as we are about to leave a lady pulls up and asks if we have seen a little black and white dog. Excited we take her to the area where we last saw her dog and as soon as she calls her name, Maggie comes running up. She is just so grateful to us and very happy to have found her dog. She tells us that her husband is the Miller at the exhibit when it formally opens and she knows the guys working on the visitor centre so she can ring the number on the collar of the other dog. She does and finds out that amazingly the little dog is 5 miles away from home but the owner is on her way. We have to leave but do so feeling pretty good and knowing that two families will be a lot happer tonight with their lost dogs back home!
Back on the road and before coming off the Parkway we take the mountain view road to take a look at our final destination with Ralph and Katrina of Roanoke.
