I am here for school so I decided I should write a little bit about campus and what I've seen so far. I don't want anyone to think I'm on vacation! :D
Thursday after the trip was an international student orientation on campus. We all attended a presentation on the overall ideas on campus and the differences between other countries and Australia learning. We also heard about the technologies on campus like using our ID card to purchase and the fact that others can load up our card from other countries. Remember that!! A nurse also talked about the dangers drinking can pose as well as water safety and student health considering things like exercise, sleep and the fact that those who socialize more end up getting better grades in the end. Afterwords we had midmorning tea which is basially a snack before a late lunch.
I then attended a very short campus tour while I waited for the information session about the art program. That presentation was fairly brief and just went through how grades are received and how to turn in papers. Also what is expected of us and how things run around here.
Then it was lunch! My favorite part of any day.
We then all walked to the other part of campus to register for classes which had a gigantic, impossible line...or what they always call a queue. We waited for an hour and then figured out we could just head across to another building to do it quicker. So we did that. The whole process was not hard whatsoever but the enrolment pages were really hard to get through because everything needed to be just so as far as our information. It was rediculous but I ended up figuring it out eventually...
It turns out I have each class only once a week for 2 hours. This is very nice considering the semi-long walk from my house. According to the schedule I have I only have class Tuesday and Wednesday but one was completely full so I'm going to show up and get in on Thursday. The overall layout sounds pretty nice because they have to keep in mind where people live in the giant town.
The faculty and lifestyle of the campus cater to what Australia is about -- traveling and seeing as much as possible. So, there are several clubs and activities each week that students can participate in like going into the city, intramural-type fun and themed parties. As long as you participate, you're in for a really fun time!
The campus is so beautiful!! The architecture is very artsy, geometric, and colorful. Some buildings look very industrial and others sort of beachy. Overall it's very friendly. The buildings are pretty confusing though because there are sooo many and they all sort of intertwine with walkways and tunnels. I'm starting to get the hang of it though. I believe all my classes are in the same building so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
But until classes start I'm going to enjoy the weather, the country, and take advantage of everything this part of the world has to offer...aka sunshine and fun adventures!
