Hello. This is just a quick update as we are waiting for our room to be prepared in Hanoi.
Since the last blog we have done so much. I will list them:
Smile Bar in Vang Vien - Fires, buckets of booze and scatty english girl
6 hour bus journey - (Vang Vien to Louang Prabang) pringles for breakfast, a little bit sick, quite hungover, Superhans again.
Louang Prabang - Markets, Beer Lao t-shirt, cocktails, Lao rice wine, Bowling alley (bare feet bowling), crazy irish guys.
Waterfall - We had a very cultural day on Tuesday. We climbed some steps to a Shrine at the top of a hill overlooking Louang Prabang. The views were breathtaking, so were the steps. We saw Buddha's foot, which was about 2 feet long. We think he might be a T-Rex. We then spent the afternoon at Kuang Si Waterfall. Spectacular falls, several swimming pools with crisp, blue water. By that time it was about 2pm and we were all in need of a cold beer. So we spent the afternoon eating and drinking.
Flight to Hanoi - Hungover, but probably the best flight ever. It had propellers and the inflight meal was...a BURGER and a swiss roll. Absolutely amazing on a hangover. Jamie got an extra burger because of a blackberry using Canadian. We got to Hanoi at about 6. We got ripped off by a cabbie on the way to the City but we have chalked it up to experience and we got his map. Hanoi is extremely busy, with mopeds and motorcycles roaming about in an endless stream and honking your horn seems to be compulsory. Crossing the road will put hairs on your chest. Apparently the best way is to walk determindely across and hope that you don't get hit. After a few goes, it gets fun.
We are planning on going to Ha Long bay tomorrow, which is a magical bay full of stone pillars and so today we must see some sights of Hanoi before leaving for a long journey south tomorrow towards Da Nang/Nha Trang/Hue and eventually Ho Chi Minh.
Sorry this is a bitty entry, will try and be more descriptive in future.
PS, We have tried 2 new beers since getting to Hanoi; Beer Ha Noi and Beer Saigon. They reminded us of French stubbies in flavour.
Again, we will try to put photos up soon.
PPS, The picture above is of Louang Prabang, NOT Hanoi.
Love JDJ
