Delhi belly and more of that fun
So, our two weeks in India are soon to be over. So many things we've experienced and seen, so many amazing, overwhelming things and yet, a land full of tradgedy and poor people. When we arrived, we were met at the arrivals hall by a lovely young man holding a sign with our names on it. Our drivers name was Manjeet Singh. A wonderful, polite young man, but drove like a mad man , just like everybody else in India. Constantly honking horns and driving on the wrong side of the road. We got to our hotel on Arakashan Road, "Quality" was it's name, not in reality . Jesus!, bugs everywhere, toilet water on the floor, dirty sheets, just about my worst nightmare. At least they put us in a new room, actually a new one everyday. It says a lot about the "Quality" Right? After a lovely long sleep, we met up with our driver and our Delhi City tour guide. He showed us the slums where most of the inhabitants were muslim. Our guide also took us to the presidents palace, Red fort and Ghandis museum. He told us everything there was to know about Ghandi and what an amazing experience we had. Last but not least he took us to the Lotus temple whitch is used for silent meditation for all religions. The atmosphere was just breath taking.
Next, we went to Jaipur and Agra. We rode on elephants, saw the Amber Wall and Palace. And our grand finale, in Agra was ofcourse the amazing Taj Mahal. Outstanding. When we Got back to Delhi our next tour started. Varanasi here we come, well it only took us 13,5 hours by train!!! Feel the irony? Well, at least it was a sleepertrain. We arrived in Varanasi at 5.45 am and as we learned indians never ever shut up! So we were both totally knackered. After a long sleep we met up with our Varanasi guide. He took us out on a little dinghy on the river ganges (they call it ganga ghe) and he showed us the place where every day 8000 people are creamated, Hindus only ofcourse. We saw an amazing ceremony from the river where Hindu priests whorshiped the river. Our next Day started again on the river ganges, with the most beautiful sunrise, people bathing and washing Their clothes in the river. We also saw the beautiful spot where Buddha himself started meditating, and all the stupas (monuments for Buddha) built in brick.
Everything here is so different from home, and i must say its been a rough start on a very long journey. We might just have taken on a bit too much by visiting India first or maybe it will give us the strength to make it through the next 5 months. I must say a lot of thoughts have been going through my mind since we got to Varanasi. At least, I guess, my carma is good after taking all the Indian and hindu traditions under my skin and in my heart. I guess the Indian People have just taken mé by storm. By hurricane maybe. They are all just so, yeah. I dont even know the words to explain!.
Whilst writing this we are on our way back to Delhi, we'll be there in aprox 12 hours. So now I'll get some sleep, hopefully the locals on this train won't be to noisy.
Thankyou India for having us. I'm sure when I've got my mind around it you've done us well. I will take a moment to thankyou for taking good care of us with only a minor case of “Delhi Belly” for us both. I send you love.
Farewell
