The Gibbon Experience was easily one of the absolute highlights of our trip and will no doubt remain one regardless of what else we do. The idea is simple you trek into the middle of the jungle, build a treehouse 45 metres up the strongest tallest tree you can find with a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding jungle, then you string steel cables (zip-wire) 400-600 metres long from tree to tree all the way back out of the jungle. You then charge tourists a weighty sum to trek into the jungle, clip themselves onto a zip-wire and fly like gibbons across the jungle at 50km/hour. You must provide them with plenty of zip-wires to ensure they are thrilled and exhausted when they arrive at the treehouse, give them a well needed hour to take in the sheer majesty of where they have arrived. In the evening take them on some more zip-wires, hunting for monkeys and to see the tallest tree in Laos. Serve them a delicious hot dinner before leaving them in peace to watch one of the most incredible sunsets they will ever see, after which they can turn off all the lights and sit in total darkness absorbing the hypnotising sounds of a nocturnal rain forest. Provide for them tented beds on private balconies and a loo with a view. Wake them up with fresh coffee and noodle soup before repeating the previous day in reverse. Leave them overwhelmed by the experience and with the desire to only ever live in a treehouse for the rest of their travels. Simple.
Having arrived back at BAP we collected our bags got our passports stamped, said (thank you) to Laos and jumped on a boat to Thailand, 10 minutes later we were on a tuk tuk in Chang Kong with a fresh visa and rumble in our stomachs. We discovered after arrival that Martin could only get a 15 day visa as he had arrived via land, this meant that we had to leave Thailand by the 18th November and as luck would have it that's when our flight to Myanmar was scheduled for, had we arrived in Thailand as originally planned would would have been in all kinds of trouble!
