It was amazing this morning to drive out of Port Augusta and see the landscape change almost immediately. Gone were the big trees and along came the open plains of shrubs and the emergence of the red dust Australia is known for. The boys were fascinated by the cattle grids (at least for the first few) and the signage that denotes the start and end of each station boundaries. Another 531 clicks closer to the top end and an interesting day on the road. Still feeling the cold this morning - was only 9 degrees when we rolled out of Keith just before 8am. Was good to get some distance behind us before a brief stop off in Hahndorf to let the boys have a look around at this lovely little German town that brought back memories for both Anth and I, having both travelled there as children with our own families. We checked out the cuckoo clocks...

Day 1 done & dusted! Boys are off having showers after having done the dishes - Anth & I are sitting by the campfire enjoying a quiet drink. No major dramas if you don't count me having to rewire the 12v plug for the car fridge at the last minute when I went to plug it in this afternoon. Had it all sorted and organised, knew what I was doing only to be let down by the increasing lack of strength in my hands....... Early onset of a bit of arthritis sucks!...
