Hola mi amigos from lovely, sunny Uruguay.
Another boat trip down (surely the last..?) and I'm in my second South American country, using my 11th currency of the trip. Bonkers...
Uruguay is lovely, quite Mediterrean - cobbled streets, wrought iron grates on the balconies, leafy streets. Cute! We started in Colonia Del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (main attraction - a lighthouse) and watched a gorgeous sunset over the harbour. Then it was on to the capital, Montevideo - a bustling city (but with a population of just 1m, and small enough to walk around). After a day exploring the Old Town we went in search of the legendary (well, Lonely Planet mentioned it) nightlife. Only to find that on a Tuesday it's a bit quiet. Still, I found a glass of vino for about £2 and cheap champagne cocktails, and it was warm enough to sit out on the street so it was lovely nonetheless.
Today we headed East to the popular beach resort of Punte Del Este... populated by rich Uruguayans and models, it was our first South American beach. A happy afternoon lazing in the sun (and getting absolutely covered in sand) later, and we're shattered. Early night for me.
Next stop, Salto.
Buenos noches.
