En route to South America I had to stop in Sydney so I thought why not make it into a little visit - I've got lots of people to catch up with while I'm here… Karl and Helen, Sophie and Llew, my cousin Vicki, Adam who I used to work with and my lovely friend Patrick… going to be busy!
I'm staying with Karl and Helen in their art-deco style apartment which overlooks the sea; I can hear the sea crashing against the shoreline. Tamarama beach is known as Glamarama - previously the gay beach, it attracts the beautiful people with dramatic coastline and incredible surf. I'm currently admiring the surfers from the balcony!
I've been to Sydney before so it's sort of familiar - I've been re-acquainting myself with the city;having drinks at the pub Vicki works at on The Rocks (the 'old district') which overlooks the Opera House, doing the Bronte to Bondi seafront walk, navigating the public transport system, hanging out in Bondi and topping up my tan on the beach.
Karl is training to be a lifeguard, so Hels and I went to cheer him on from Bronte beach today - it was 41 degrees so I spent most of the time on the beach in the shade or jumping over waves in the sea! Gorgeous. Tonight we're having a BBQ on the balcony, then off to a beach-themed fancy dress party (there's a hot tub… I like it here A LOT).
