Hmmmm. The return journey from Niagara was not quite the joy of the outbound ride.... Not sure why overall, but a 100% booked out train, and 1.5 hour stopped train for customs/passport and nightfall stealing our sidescreen entertainment meant that it dragged on and on. A lot of the track is single track, too, meaning we had to wait for trains, and follow slow moving trains quite a bit. The only good thing was a very white scenic view in the upper parts of the journey, which turned depressing decay of towns and industry into a winter wonderland. The magic of snow!
It was simply a long, boring ride, interspersed with long boring pauses while they played with their trainsets.
On arrival into New York we tackled the subway and streets around Times Square armed with way too many suitcases (I'm hoping that dealing with them will keep the pressure on to STOP SHOPPING! Not likely!)
We sorted out our checkin with the help of friends staying in a neighbouring apartment and finally settled in after midnight. Just a boring travel day.
